2016–2018
Morningside Arena
and Europe
The Riders moved into the Morningside Arena in 2016. After back-to-back trebles, they entered European competition in 2017 and won the BBL Playoff Final at the O2 in 2018.
2019–2022
Recent Success and
Treble-winning season
The team won the BBL Playoffs in 2019 and the Championship in 2021. In 2022, they secured another treble with a 25-2 record, led by MVP Geno Crandall.

Leicester Riders clinched victory in the 2025 SLB Playoff Final against long-standing rivals Newcastle Eagles, winning by 105-74, adding a 20th title to their proud legacy.

Founding and
Early Beginnings
Leicester Riders were founded on April 26th, 1967, as the Loughborough All-Stars by students and lecturers at Loughborough University. Led by Vaughan Thomas, the team featured top East Midlands talent and became the oldest professional basketball club in the UK.
1972-1981
Early League
Participation and Rejoining
In 1972, the Riders joined the newly formed National League. After a brief absence, they rejoined in 1981, playing at Granby Halls. They reached the National Cup Final in the early 90s and secured their first win in 2001.
1990s–2002
Cup Finals
and 1990s Era
After Granby Halls closed in 2000, the team moved back to Loughborough University. In the 2001/02 season, they won their first major titles—the BBL Cup and Playoff Championship—under coach Billy Mims.
2004–2006
Return to Leicester
and Early 2000s
In 1972, the Riders joined the newly formed National League. After a brief absence, they rejoined in 1981, playing at Granby Halls. They reached the National Cup Final in the early 90s and secured their first win in 2001.
2007–2011
New Management
and Rob Era
A new era began in 2007 with support from Jelson Homes. Rob Paternostro became head coach in 2008, leading the team to its highest-ever league finish and earning Coach of the Year.

In the 2012/13 season, the Riders claimed a treble—winning the BBL Cup, Championship, and Playoffs. They continued collecting titles through 2018.
