Riders Take On 89ers in Championship Rematch

Leicester Riders return to Super League Basketball Championship action as Surrey 89ers return to the Mattioli Arena in a fixture rich with history and added edge.

The game marks 10 years to the day since the Riders played their first ever game at the Mattioli Arena, a landmark night that came against Surrey, then known as the Surrey Scorchers. A decade on, the rivalry is renewed on the same floor, giving the occasion extra significance for players, coaches and fans alike.

There is also revenge on the agenda. Just last Friday, the Riders fell short against Surrey in the SLB Cup Quarter Final, and Rob Paternostro’s side will be eager to respond with a statement performance in the Championship.

Leicester come into the contest showing strong form despite that setback, having built some consistency through recent league wins and continued growth across the rotation. RaeQuan Battle remains a constant offensive threat after a run of standout performances, while Donald Carey Jr continues to dictate tempo and create opportunities.

Captain Spencer Johnson brings leadership and late game composure, qualities that could prove decisive in another tight contest.

With history, pride and league points all on the line, the Mattioli Arena is set for a special night as the Riders look to honour a decade in their home and turn the page on last week’s disappointment.

Tickets are still available for this historic night. Catch all the action live on DAZN.
