The Leicester Riders are delighted to announce the signing of American forward Deante Johnson ahead of the 2026/27 Super League Basketball season.
Johnson arrives in Leicester for his fourth professional season following an impressive start to his career across Europe and the NBA G League.
A graduate of Cleveland State University, Johnson established himself as one of the Horizon League’s premier defenders, earning Horizon League All-Defensive Team honours in three consecutive seasons (2021, 2022 and 2023).
The 6’8″ forward began his professional career with Lithuanian top-flight side Pieno Žvaigždės during the 2023/24 campaign. In 29 league appearances, Johnson averaged 6.9 points and 3.9 rebounds per game.
Following a successful rookie season in Lithuania, Johnson returned to the United States to join the Grand Rapids Gold, the NBA G League affiliate of the Denver Nuggets. His standout performance came against the Santa Cruz Warriors, where he recorded a season-high 20 points alongside five rebounds off the bench.
Johnson spent the opening part of the 2025/26 season in Bulgaria before joining Austrian side Redwell Gunners Oberwart, where he finished the campaign averaging 9.8 points and 5.8 rebounds per game.
Standing at 6’8″, Johnson brings size, athleticism and defensive intensity to the Riders’ frontcourt. His ability to protect the rim, switch defensively and finish above the basket makes him a valuable addition to Head Coach Rob Paternostro’s squad as Leicester prepares for the new Super League Basketball season.
