About the Role:
We are currently recruiting for Leicester Riders Satellite Club Community Coaches to work with players aged 9–16 across our school and community programmes. The role includes coaching, planning, and administration to deliver high-quality sessions that inspire young people both on and off the court. It will also include coaching the team in our Central Venue League (CVL) hosted at the home of the Leicester Riders – The Mattioli Arena.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Act as a Head Coach/Assistant Coach in both training sessions and CVL fixtures.
- Support with the implementation of the vision and culture of the Leicester Riders Satellite Club Pathway.
- Work with fellow coaches to create positive, challenging environments that develop each player’s technical, tactical, physical, and psychological skills.
- Collaborate with the Pathway Head Coach & support staff to deliver structured training and development programmes.
Learning Opportunities:
- Work with and learn from experienced coaches across the Leicester Riders organisation.
- CPD opportunities & workshops provided by the Club, Basketball England and external stakeholders.
General:
- Must be based in the UK and or Leicester and the surrounding area.
- Be a positive role model, ambassador, and advocate for the sport, Leicester Riders, and Basketball England at all times.
- Respect and promote the principles of safeguarding and protecting young people.
- Actively role model the Equality and Safeguarding policies, ensuring it underpins all aspects of delivery.
- Undertake additional duties where required, consistent with the responsibilities of the role and the needs of Leicester Riders Satellite Clubs.
- Ensure Leicester Riders Basketball Club is presented professionally and positively at all times.
What are we looking for:
Education / Qualifications
- UKCC Level 2 Basketball (or working towards)
- Valid Safeguarding Children certificate
- First Aid qualification
Experience
- Coaching basketball in a school, club, or community environment
- Experience working with young athletes aged 9–16
- Strong player and people management skills
- Experience planning and delivering progressive coaching programmes
Skills / Abilities / Knowledge
- Ability to inspire young players, build trust, and foster a positive, ambitious team culture
- Strong teamwork and collaboration skills
- Clear and effective communicator—able to simplify tactical and technical points under pressure
- Knowledge of basketball development frameworks and performance analysis tools desirable
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people
