Ethan Wright named Super League Basketball Sixth Player of the Year!

Leicester Riders guard Ethan Wright has been named Super League Basketball Sixth Player of the Year.

The award, voted for by coaches, captains and media members, goes to the most outstanding player off the bench this season.

Wright, a second-year pro, averaged 10.7 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.1 steals per game in an average of 21 minutes.

The American’s season featured four 20 point performances, including a 23 point night in the Riders’ Trophy Semi-Final against Newcastle Eagles

He finished his regular season with a player of the game effort in the Riders’ win against Caledonia Gladiators, going off for 22 points and 9 rebounds in 21 minutes.

Wright said, “The recognition means a lot personally, but it’s a representation of our team. We have a lot of guys who made sacrifices, and coming off the bench was something I had to adjust to and something I took pride in.

“It’s been a really great year for us, and we’re still focused on the main goal of winning a Championship. My role is coming off the bench and being an impact guy, so I’m going to continue to put all of my energy into winning the Final!”

Head Coach Rob Paternostro added, “Ethan is exactly what you would want in a sixth man. He makes an impact from the bench, can play multiple positions and as the season went on, found a nice rhythm to his game.

“He certainly was a guy you could count on in the season.”

This news comes after Charles Thompson was named to the Defensive Team of the Year, Riley Abercrombie was named to the British Team of the Year, and Thompson and Jackson were named to the Team of the Year.

The Riders are now preparing for their upcoming Playoff Final at the O2 Arena against Newcastle Eagles on Sunday.
