Journey to the Semi-Finals
The Riders enter the semi-finals fresh from an impressive quarter-final victory over M1 rivals the Sheffield Sharks. After trailing by three points following the home leg, Leicester travelled to Sheffield needing a big performance — and delivered one of their best displays of the season to book their place in the final four.
Backed by an outstanding travelling support, the Riders produced a relentless performance on both ends of the floor to overturn the deficit and eliminate the fourth-seeded Sharks with a 175–168 aggregate victory. Leicester were the only lower-seeded team to progress from the quarter-finals, underlining the scale of the achievement.
The London Lions enjoyed a more comfortable route to the semi-finals, defeating the Newcastle Eagles 178–141 on aggregate. Entering the play-offs as the number one seed, the Lions remain favourites for the title after already collecting three trophies this season.
As the higher seed, London will host the second leg at the Copper Box Arena on Sunday 10th May, with a place in the Play-off Final at The O2 Arena on the line.
Ones to Watch
Keddy Johnson began his play-off campaign in sensational form, exploding for 34 points in the second leg against Sheffield, including 21 in the first half. His defensive intensity helped generate easy offence for both himself and his teammates, while his speed and athleticism in transition proved difficult for the Sharks to contain.
Flynn Boardman-Raffet has also been instrumental in the Riders’ recent success and could play a key role once again in the semi-finals. Recently named in the SLB British Team of the Season, the young guard has thrived after stepping into a leadership role following injuries and departures earlier in the campaign.
A Player of the Month nominee for April, Boardman-Raffet has impressed with his efficient finishing, perimeter shooting, and passionate leadership as captain.
The Lions boast one of the deepest rosters in the league, combining elite domestic talent with high-level American imports. British stars Tarik Phillip and Deane Williams have both enjoyed standout seasons, earning recognition in the SLB British and Defensive Teams of the Season.
American forward Joel Scott has also been a difficult matchup throughout the year, using his strength, mobility, and versatility to punish opponents. Leicester will need to be at their defensive best to slow down London’s array of offensive weapons.
Renewed Rivalry
The Riders and Lions are no strangers to play-off success. Between them, the two clubs have won each of the last five play-off titles, with Leicester claiming four of those championships — including last season’s Play-off Final victory over the Newcastle Eagles at The O2 Arena.
With two of British basketball’s most successful teams going head-to-head, this semi-final promises high intensity, big moments, and plenty of drama as both sides battle for a place in the 2026 Play-off Final.
Tickets for Thursday’s first leg are available from just £10. The Riders need your support as they look to gain an advantage against the league champions.
Wear red, bring the noise, and be the difference.
