Riders fall in overtime after dramatic Surrey comeback

Surrey 89ers 107–102 Leicester Riders (after overtime)
Quarter scores: 18–23, 33–24, 22–23, 20–23, 14–9

The Leicester Riders suffered a heartbreaking overtime defeat to the Surrey 89ers after Marreon Jackson’s three-pointer with two seconds remaining forced an extra period.

The Riders made a strong start, taking a five-point lead into the second quarter after holding Surrey to 18 points. Surrey responded with a big second period, though, scoring 33 points to take a 51–47 advantage into half-time.

Leicester stayed within reach in the third, trimming the gap to three points at 73–70. The Riders then battled back in the fourth, with contributions across the team helping them turn the game around. Taryn Todd’s late free throws put Leicester five points ahead with 18 seconds left.

Surrey refused to give in. Jalen Graham scored to cut the deficit, and after the Riders missed two free throws, Jackson found the basket from beyond the arc to tie the game at 93–93 and send it to overtime.

The extra period remained close, with Bernard Pelote’s free throws keeping Leicester in contention. Jaylon White also hit a timely three, but Surrey edged ahead in the closing stages and converted at the line to secure a 107–102 win.

The Riders showed real fight to recover from Surrey’s second-quarter run and looked set to claim a hard-earned road victory before Jackson’s late shot. They will take plenty of positives from the comeback, despite the disappointment of falling just short in overtime.
