The Leicester Riders are proud to be supporting Leicester City Council’s National Year of Reading, helping to encourage young people across the city to discover the power of reading.
As a club deeply rooted in the Leicester community, we are committed to inspiring the next generation both on and off the court. We spoke with Head of Leicester Riders Foundation, Rob Jarram, on the impact of our young participants reading
“Reading plays a vital role in developing young minds, building confidence, improving focus, and supporting mental well-being. Taking time to read can help young people relax, learn new skills, and open up new opportunities for their future.”

Throughout the year, the Riders will be encouraging our fans, the schools we work with, and the wider basketball community to get involved. Whether it’s picking up a new book, revisiting a favourite story, or spending time at a local library, every page turned is a step toward learning and growth.
We will be promoting the importance of reading across our school programmes and community activity, reinforcing the message that success in sport and in life starts with strong foundations.
Leicester’s assistant city mayor for libraries, Cllr Vi Dempster, said
“The Leicester Riders are a fantastic asset to our city and we’re delighted to have them on board for our National Year of Reading. This year is about reminding everyone of the joy of reading, whatever you want to read about.
“We’ve got so much to offer at our libraries, from books and e-books to digital resources, audiobooks, study spaces and regular activities for young people and families. They are welcoming, inclusive spaces designed to support learning and creativity.
“It’s easy to get involved in the National Year of Reading – just visit your local library and choose a book.”

The Riders are proud to stand behind this city wide initiative and encourage all of our supporters to get involved. Together, let’s inspire a love of reading and continue building a brighter future for young people across Leicester.
