The Leicester Riders are delighted to announce the signing of American forward Blair Thompson ahead of the 2026/27 Super League Basketball season.
A graduate of Ivy League school, Columbia University, Thompson arrives in Leicester to begin his professional career following an impressive collegiate campaign. In his senior season for the Lions, the 6’8″ forward averaged 11.4 points and 4.8 rebounds per game, while shooting an outstanding 40.9% from three-point range.
Thompson’s combination of size, athleticism and versatility makes him an exciting addition to the Riders’ roster. Capable of stretching the floor offensively while defending multiple positions, he brings a skillset that will strengthen both ends of the court as Head Coach Rob Paternostro continues to shape his squad for the new campaign.
Speaking after signing his first professional contract, Thompson said:

Head Coach Rob Paternostro believes Thompson has all the attributes to make a strong impact in his first professional season.

He’s a versatile player who can impact the game in multiple positions on both ends of the floor. He has the ability to stretch the floor, get downhill and finish at the basket, and consistently makes winning plays. His basketball IQ and overall feel for the game really stood out while watching him at Columbia. We’re delighted to welcome him to Leicester and look forward to seeing him continue his development.”
