Leicester Riders Promote Mike Joiner to Super League Basketball Squad

Leicester Riders are pleased to announce that Michael Joiner has been promoted from the Loughborough Riders programme to the club’s Super League Basketball (SLB) playing squad following an impressive season in the British Championship Basketball league.

Joiner has now been officially registered as a member of the Leicester Riders Super League Basketball squad, marking the next step in his development within the Riders’ pathway.

Joiner has been a standout performer for Loughborough Riders throughout the 2025/26 campaign, consistently delivering high-level performances and establishing himself as one of the league’s most productive guards.

Speaking on his promotion to the Leicester Riders SLB team, Joiner said

“Man, it’s exciting. Having the opportunity to compete at a higher level and learn while being coached by Coach Rob is a great feeling. I’m looking forward to helping the team and making the most out of this opportunity.”

Head Coach, Rob Paternostro Praised Joiner

“We’re pleased to have Mike join us. He was having a strong season with Loughborough University in BCB competition, and his familiarity with the team should help him settle in quickly, having previously trained with us.”

During the current British Championship Basketball season, Joiner has averaged over 20 points per game, alongside strong rebounding and playmaking contributions, highlighted by multiple standout performances, including a 36-point display earlier in the campaign against Bristol Hurricanes and a 33-point, eight-rebound performance against Newcastle Knights. His scoring consistency and all-around impact have been instrumental for Loughborough throughout the season.

The promotion reflects both Joiner’s individual development and the continued success of the Riders’ performance pathway between Loughborough Riders and the professional SLB programme.
