The Leicester Riders Foundation were delighted to visit Saint Clare’s Primary School as part of our Hoops 4 Health Roadshow, delivering an engaging afternoon of basketball, health education, and positive messages to Year 5 and 6 pupils.
Our community coaches were joined by Leicester Riders men’s team players Spencer Johnson, Travis Evee, Tomiwa Sulaiman, and Emmanuel Akot, who took part in a series of interactive sessions across the two year groups.

The afternoon was designed around four activity stations, giving pupils the chance to learn in a fun and varied way:
- Healthy Eating with Tomiwa Sulaiman – discussing the importance of nutrition and making good food choices.
- Smoking Cessation with Travis Evee – raising awareness of the risks of smoking and encouraging healthy lifestyle decisions.
- Healthy Heart & Exercise with Emmanuel Akot – exploring the benefits of regular physical activity for both body and mind.
- Practical Basketball Skills with Spencer Johnson and the Riders coaching team – where pupils took to the court to practice their shooting with Leicester Riders Club Captain.
This format ensured that pupils not only improved their basketball skills but also gained valuable knowledge about health, wellbeing, and the importance of making positive life choices.

Headteacher Judy Beer praised the impact of the visit:
“A key part of our personal development curriculum is the Hoops 4 Health programme, which is a fantastic experience for our Year 5 & 6 pupils. Not only has it encouraged them to stay active and enjoy the game of basketball, but it has also taught them important lessons about teamwork, resilience, and making positive lifestyle choices, such as healthy eating.
Having role models from the Leicester Riders deliver these sessions has really inspired our children and shown them how sport can build confidence both on and off the court.”
Through initiatives like the Hoops 4 Health Roadshow, the Leicester Riders Foundation continues to use basketball as a vehicle to educate and inspire young people, supporting schools in promoting healthy lifestyles, resilience, teamwork, and ambition both on and off the court.
We would like to thank everyone at Saint Clare’s Primary for their warm welcome, and we look forward to continuing to work together to inspire the next generation through basketball.
