GAME PREVIEW: RIDERS RETURN HOME TO FACE BRISTOL FLYERS

Leicester Riders return to the Mattioli Arena tonight for their first regular-season home game of the 2026/27 campaign, taking on Bristol Flyers in a 7:30pm tip-off.

After opening the season on the road, Rob Paternostro’s side will be looking to make the most of home court and get their first win on the board in front of the Riders faithful.

LAST TIME OUT

The Riders head into tonight’s game following a 71-66 defeat against London Lions, where a strong fourth-quarter fightback saw Leicester cut a 19-point deficit to just five late in the game.

Trent Johnson provided an important spark from beyond the arc, while TJ Hurley, Julian Mackey and Bernard Pelote all made key contributions during the comeback. CVDavidRyan

Despite falling short, the final period showed the character of this new-look Riders group, and they will be hoping to carry that momentum into their first home appearance of the season.

THE OPPOSITION

Bristol arrive in Leicester with confidence after an impressive 76-58 victory over Manchester Basketball.

Matteus Case proved particularly dangerous from the perimeter, while Michael Diggins Jr made his presence felt at both ends of the floor with his rebounding and shot-blocking. Davion Bailey also provided a scoring threat from inside and beyond the arc. CVChristopherMachado

RIDERS TO WATCH

Trent Johnson brings athleticism and energy at both ends of the floor, giving the Riders another versatile option as the new-look team continues to build chemistry.

TJ Hurley showed his ability to make big shots against London, knocking down a three late in the fourth quarter as Leicester mounted their comeback.

JJ White will also be important in the Riders backcourt, with his ability to create for teammates and push the pace providing another dimension to Leicester’s offence.

THE MATCHUP

Bristol showed against Manchester that they can punish teams when they find rhythm from outside, while their size around the basket gives them a strong defensive presence.

For Leicester, controlling the glass, limiting second-chance opportunities and bringing the defensive intensity from the opening possession will be key.

With the Riders back on their home floor for the first time this regular season, tonight promises to be a big occasion at the Mattioli Arena.
